かつて日本では「手あぶり火鉢」と名付けられた小ぶりな火鉢が広く使われていました。江戸後期京焼の名陶工仁阿弥道八にはこれを猫型にした作品がありますが、「手あぶり猫」は、この猫型火鉢にヒントを得て岩手県の陶芸家本間文が現代に甦らせたものです。一体一体作家が手づくりで制作し窯で焼いた陶芸作品で、さまざまな猫の表情をリアルに再現したユニークな置物です。 In the past, small braziers named "teaburi hibachi" were widely used in Japan. The famous late-Edo period Kyo-yaki potter Niami Michihachi made a cat-shaped version of these braziers, and the "Teaburi Neko" was inspired by this cat-shaped brazier and revived in the modern age by Iwate Prefecture potter Honma Fumie.
