① is
"Cute. When I hear her name, this word comes to my mind reflexively. Her immature and youthful singing voice (the moment when her voice turns a little husky in the middle of the song is irresistible) has a charm that makes you want to protect her. Now, this 5th album from 1962 has finally been reissued after the 5 albums from her Warner days. Produced and arranged by Tommy Oliver, who discovered her. Released after the big hit single "Shy Johnny" in the same year, this album is dazzlingly seasoned with a flashy orchestra, making this a spirited pop vocal album. The crisp sound of the wind instruments is particularly refreshing. The swingy and powerful songs, such as the slightly humorous big band swing at the beginning ① and the song ⑦, which was also sung by the Beatles, are great for dancing to loud music. On the other hand, she also has the ability to sing mellow songs with rich emotion. That's why she has not ended up as a fleeting idol, but continues to be a cute 'singer' even now.'
Record Collectors, December 2006, from Yu Hasegawa's liner notes
② is her sixth album, which includes her big hits "Shy Johnny" and "One Boy." Although the songs are slightly different from the original LP record, it includes four single hits including the ones mentioned above. ① is a jazz-like work, while this one is a genuine female oldies style. The vocal version of the famous song "Summer Day Love" by the Percy Faith Orchestra is a perfect reproduction of the original Summer Day, with Johnny Somers' version suppressing Julie London and Patti Page. Among the many talented singers of the 60's, such as Connie Francis and Peggy March, I believe that Johnny Somers was at the top with her sweet singing voice.
