商品の説明 AMAZONレビュー Overshadowed by the headline-making success of Louis Armstrong's concurrent collaborations with vocalist Ella Fitzgerald (Porgy and Bess--, for example), these two lush and extravagant orchestra-and-vocals sessions, recorded (if you believe the notes, in a single day) in Los Angeles in 1957, reappear on two CDs, with out-takes and pin-drop hifi sound. Russell Garciaｹs arrangements are glossy but forgettable backgrounds; but enthusiasts for Armstrongｹs vocals will want to wallow in his splendidly recorded, lazy crooning. He picks up the trumpet regularly too, and the contrast between his antique, highly-personalised sound and the orchestraｹs faceless sheen is a shock every time. Inevitably, not all the tunes are as profound as the musical sensibility recording them--but if thereｹs music in them, Armstrong finds it. Luckily, too, the out-takes (interesting studio chat and false starts) come at the end of the action, so you donｹt have to set your programmer if you just want to hear the music straight through. --Linton Chiswick
