The focus is on Ji Yun's (1724-1805) Random Jottings at the Cottage of Close Scrutiny (Yuewei caotang biji), but extensive reference is also made to other collections published at about the same time and earlier works in the genre, from the Six Dynasties down to the Ming. 【紀Yun著『中国怪異譚閲微草堂筆記 (平凡社ライブラリー)』より内容紹介】命を助けられた狐が美女と化し嫁に来て子供を産む話、複数の男に乱暴された女の幽霊が四十年後に身の潔白を夢の中で訴える話等々、人間は死ねばすべて鬼となると考えられていた清時代の人間と幽霊と狐をめぐる怪異譚が満載。『聊斎志異』と双壁をなす志怪小説の代表作。【紀Yun略歴】1724‐1805。清代中期の学者。1754年進士に及第し、翰林院編修から侍読学士に累進した。68年罪に問われ、ウルムチに流される。のち四庫全書館の総纂官として編纂の事業を統括【KU LEUVENより著者紹介】Leo Tak-hung CHAN is Professor and former Head of the Department of Translation, Lingnan University, Hong Kong.
