Voo Doo Phunk Lionize (Acid-Jazz/99年イタリア盤)
There are still healthy doses of ragga vocals and dub textures here, but the band adds a more jungle to the album (track 2, which contains hypnotic, ethereal female vox), along with some secret agent-stylee grooves and beats, a la Thievery Corporation/Thunderball. The horn charts on this album are once again top-notch, and the group even takes the classic Steely Dan tune "Do It Again" and does it one better....Becker and Fagen should be proud...and afraid...very afraid. Make sure you listen for the Star Wars probe droid samples contained on track 5, a fear-inducing, didgeridoo-laced tone poem, set upon a drum n' bass canvas. I can't really list all the accolades this band deserves in the space provided, but I can say this: If this group goes unnoticed by the masses, it will truly be a crime. The band understands where their roots are grounded, and at the same time has their sights set upon the future.
